Midco Continues to Expand Fiber Access in Bismarck-Mandan

Midco has invested heavily in the Bismarck-Mandan region over the past five years. Since 2021, the company has spent $19.3 million on fiber upgrades across both communities. Through 2028, Midco is projected to spend an additional $4 million in Bismarck and $5.1 million in Mandan to improve fiber connectivity.

These investments add up. Currently, 23,449 homes and businesses in Bismarck-Mandan have experienced speed upgrades through Fiber Forward. By the end of 2028, Midco estimates that an additional 40,534 homes and businesses will receive upgrades, bringing their internet service to even greater heights.

“In 2021, we launched our Fiber Forward commitment to bring next-generation fiber connectivity to homes and businesses across North Dakota,” says Dold. “Today, we are thrilled to preview the next phase of our network evolution. This $9.1 million investment in fiber network upgrades will bring blazing fast symmetrical speeds, low latency, unmatched reliability, and rock-solid security to more than 40,000 homes and businesses across the Bismarck area.”

The Fiber Forward project will wrap up in 2028 as Midco reaches its goal of bringing 4 gigabit‑per‑second (Gbps) download / 1 Gbps upload speeds to the Bismarck-Mandan region and beyond.

New Bismarck Technical Operations Center

Not only is Midco bringing fiber to North Dakota residents, but it is also investing in the community by establishing a new Technical Operations Center (TOC). Midco recently completed its new Bismarck TOC, creating space for additional service equipment and room for the field team.

The new site spans six acres in southeast Bismarck and features 18 offices, 30 cubicles, and multiple conference and collaboration spaces. It also houses 4,200 square feet of dedicated construction storage and 4,200 square feet of inventory storage.

Midco needed to expand its TOC to accommodate its growing customer base in the region. The Bismarck EDC will join team Midco at the updated facility for a ribbon-cutting on June 24.

Midco is a Force for Good in Bismarck

Beyond supporting businesses and remote workers with fiber internet while creating jobs in the region, Midco also invests in Bismarck-Mandan by giving back. In 2025, Midco provided $959,091 in MidcoTV public service announcement (PSA) programming to Bismarck non-profits. These ads help organizations tell their stories to audiences across the Midwest.

“Being a force for good means going above and beyond to make the Bismarck region – and every community we serve – the best place it can be,” says Dold. “It’s about showing up and lending a helping hand. The human element means everything to us at Midco.”

Midco is proud to sponsor the Missouri Slope Areawide United Way, the Bismarck Events Center, and the Bismarck Cancer Center Golf Scramble. Twice a year, the Midco Foundation awards grants to charitable organizations that help their communities thrive. In 2025, Midco provided $275,000 in foundation grants, including a $10,000 grant to Dream Center Bismarck to help fight food insecurity in the community.

“We intend to make community partnership as important as ever as Midco enters its 95th year of serving customers,” says Dold.
